OpenCourseWare Consortium

by Derek E. on November 22nd, 2010

This week, just a brief note on OpenCourseWare and the OpenCourseWare Consortium. “An OpenCourseWare (OCW) is a free and open digital publication of high quality university-level educational materials. These materials are organized as courses, and often include course planning materials and evaluation tools as well as thematic content.”

The OpenCourseWare Consortium is a global community consisting of hundreds of Universities and associated organizations dedicated to the advancement of OpenCourseWare and its influence on education worldwide. They function as a platform for starting and sustaining OCW projects, providing an open forum for exchanging ideas all the while being the coordinating body for the movement.

The objective is to allow users and seekers alike to access “…affordable, educationally and culturally appropriate opportunities to gain whatever knowledge or training they desire.” With strategic partnership the Consortium acts to realize one vision “…that of access to high-quality educational materials” that can be attainable by anyone, anywhere in the world.
